Pierre-Joseph Redouté (1759–1840) was a renowned Belgian-born French painter and botanical illustrator, often called the “Raphael of Flowers.” His detailed and delicate watercolors of plants, particularly roses, lilies, and other botanical specimens, earned him fame as one of the greatest botanical artists. Redouté was appointed court painter to Queen Marie Antoinette and later to Empress Joséphine, who was a patron of his work. His contributions to botanical illustration, notably in books like Les Liliacées and Les Roses, remain influential today.
